Alex Glinski - VK5ALX
It is with great sadness that we record the death of Alex Glinski. Alex passed away in his sleep last night (21 Aug 2025). We remember and honour our friend Alex — a voice we knew so well over the airwaves, and a presence we were fortunate to know in person.
Alex was a great force in the amateur radio world that was matched by his deep knowledge of all things electronic, radio and the associated activities that go with it.
Radio was his passion, yes — but it was also his way of living. He loved solving problems, lending a hand with advice, or sharing a spare part. Alex was an important part of the Whyalla Amateur Radio Club and served as club president for a number of years. When he was able to, he enjoyed going out to various field days and contests.
He was an innovative and practical experimenter who created many purpose built projects and circuits for his experiments.
And who can forget the cunningly placed foxes in the club's radio direction finding excursions; always popular with the club's members.
Rest easy, Alex. Your signal may have faded, but your voice will never be forgotten.
